Cleaning advice for geese down or feather duvets
Duvet-down gives you cleaning advice for your natural duvets and down blankets to preserve the quality of this goose down. Good down quality implies good cleaning.

How to wash a duvet?

The advice given here are valid for duvets manufactured by Duvet down. They are duvets filled with new and high quality down. For this reason, our cleaning advice are not relevant as far as synthetic duvets or duvets filled with recycled material (feather or down) are concerned. Duvets filled with recycled feather and down are more delicate to wash because those feathers and downs already are brittle and fibrous. They have been weakened by a first use and recycling.

Washing:

Your duvet is machine washable at 30°C (warm). Twin size duvets usually fit in a 12kg washing-machine. Double, queen and king size duvets require 24kg washing machines.

We advise you to add washing balls to your load to prevent down or feathers from being stuck on one side of the washing machine. Be aware that there is no need to insist on pushing the duvet into the washing machine if it is too small. To be properly cleaned, the duvet has to be tossed. In any case, once the duvet has been washed, we recommend you treat it with an anti dust mite product. Should you require more information on that matter please check the following website :acarien.net

Please note that you should check out any tear in the duvet before inserting it in the washing machine. The spinning during the washing cycle could emphasize those tears and seriously damage your duvet. We recommend you to have it repaired before cleaning.

However, we do recommend you to have your down duvet dry cleaned by a professional. They are very well equipped for that kind of cleaning.
Please note that in order not to damage the down quality of the duvets, we strongly advise that you dry clean every duvet and down blanket.

Drying:

It takes a long time for a duvet to dry, that time is necessary and very important. You should never use a duvet when it is still wet. Down and feathers could actually moisten your bed when the duvet is laid on the bed, and then create moulds effects.

Duvet down duvets are anti-mould treated, it is then risk free, however your duvet will be fully effective when completely dry. Duvet dried in a dryer are not guaranteed and we strongly advise you against dryers that damage down quality.

When possible, in summertime, we recommend you to hang out your duvet in a sunny and windy location. In wintertime, place your duvet in a heated and aired room. Once the duvet is dry, it has to be ruffled, i.e. you have to shake it vigorously and separate down and feathers that might be stucked in a same area of the duvet.
